Her book, “Appetite: Sex, Touch, and Desire in Women with Anorexia,” presents a model for understanding sexuality as complex with interconnected factors, and explores how anorexia interacts with the varies components of women’s sexuality.

Currently, Melissa works as an adjunct professor in Sexuality and Media Studies, and as a career coach and digital content strategy consultant, helping health professionals create the online presence of their dreams. Previously, Melissa worked as Managing Editor of “Everyday Feminism,” one of the largest independent feminist media platforms in the world.

Her expertise has been featured in The New Yorker, TIME Magazine, The Guardian, Bon Appetit, SELF, and on MSNBC, the BBC, Good Morning America, and more.

She holds a PhD in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University.
